Do you know:

- That only 17% of people with mental illness are employed?
- They are perceived as a problem or a danger by employers.
- Social welfare houses residents with mental illness were not given an opportunity to work in Poland so far.

Friends of Disables Society understands problems of disable people and people with mental illness. We’ve been helping disable people who are socially excluded for last 30 years and we are trying to meet their needs.

We are supporting 2074 people with special needs. We know how important is for them to have a job. Work is one of the most important part of their life and the most effective therapy. We employ 221 people with special needs. We all feel valued and needed if we have a job. Being employed plays a key part in creating self esteem and meaning of life and it prevents social exclusion.

Unfortunately people with special needs don’t have possibility to go back to work and they are often excluded from society. If they have no support they are lacking motivation to fight for better future, they feel inferior and they don’t feel accepted. Having a job is important for people with special needs because it motivates them to look after their physical and mental condition. Working is so important for people with mental illness because it gives them an opportunity to socialize which helps them to integrate into society.

38 work places for disable people will be created in the kitchen and other departments of Sweet Sweet Home. It’ll help the employees to get ready for independent life. We’re planning to create jobs for gardeners and office workers. Everyday tasks help to find meaning in life and give a reason to get out of bed. Daily routine will be tailored to individual needs so it doesn’t cause unnecessary pressure. Some people feel good looking after plants in the garden and the others prefer office job.
